I can consistently get far superior results with DXO Photolab Elite than with the most recent version of ON1 even though ON1 has more tools at its disposal. I completely agree with your assessment that ON1 is a "jack of all trades and master of none". I have ON1 2018.5 and the most recent beta of ON1 2019. If history continues as it has in the past, if you wait to upgrade for a few months, drastically reduced prices will start bombarding you in your inbox. I think that most folks who use OnOne like the workflow - my impression after paying for the first two versions is that it is a jack of all trades, master of none. Capture One and Iridient are far superior (as is SilkyPix), although I have not demo'ed OnOne 2019 - that ship sailed a while ago anyway. I have found OnOne's raw conversion to be average, at best, especially for Fujifilm x-trans files. So far though, I've not wanted to move to another software suite yet. I'm still using 2018 I think in On1 RAW, so I'll see after my updates and all and what the discount is for going to 2019. Sharpening works well, but I use CS5.1 for all sharpening anyways as I use different methods there (combinations of high pass filters & unsharp masks at pixel level and multi-iteration). The noise reduction is pretty good and doesn't destroy everything. Pretty easy to batch organize and batch process. However, lots of things can be done auotmatically with On1 RAW and I like the export process as I can flag things, set them to be resized, output as TIF or JPG or whatever I want, etc. I finish off everything in Photoshop CS5.1 as a pixel editor. I generally use On1 RAW for RAW manipulation and conversion. I have not used Capture One so I cannot comment on that. The modules like HDR and all that work really well too. But I particularly like it for Fuji FAW files when it comes to shadows and color, etc. I'm still using On1 RAW since I went Fuji. Also not to mention at a lower price than the other three!!ġ2mm Roki, 16 f1.4, 35 f1.4, 56 f1.2, 80 Macro Not only that, but you get HDR, Panorama, and Focus Stacking all automated in one software package. My results from the sliders is greatly improved over 2018, so my final result is now the best with On1 2019. I've been waiting for the "Libraries" to come out for Luminar in December to see if it is any good before deciding on a "GoTo" software.Īfter downloading the beta for On1 2019 my decision just may be made. Adobe has gotten behind while chasing some cloud somewhere. Luminar gave the best results, but is only a plug-in for now. Of the four I have preferred using On1 2018, but felt I got better results with Capture One. But if I add Photoshop to the mix and just call it Adobe then the four are all competitive. The three mentioned surpass Lightroom in performance and give better images with Fuji files. I have On1 2018, Capture One and Luminar plus many others with the intent as a replacement for Adobe. I just pre-ordered ,then downloaded the beta version of On1 2019.
